I know you love room tours, and today you are in for a treat! I had the pleasure of completing this living room and breakfast room project a few weeks ago for a wonderful couple here in Katy.
When they first reached out to me, they mentioned that they had worked with another interior designer, who was a friend, on their master bedroom. After visiting their home for the initial consultation, I could tell that they loved neutral tones. Their master bedroom was pretty much a neutral palette with not a lot of color.
I wanted to continue the neutral palette, but layer in a lot of textures for some depth, and add some color for interest. My clients were very open to my ideas, and trusted me to deliver a beautiful, functional and comfortable space
Here’s an after shot of the living room
Here’s where we started
The room was a complete blank slate. Notice how smaller it looks without furniture. The draperies that they inherited with the purchase of their home had to go. They were dated and just not very attractive. The room was lacking storage and obviously seating.
I started by having a custom built in the niche by the window. That filled the awkward empty space and added some storage and display area. Here it is being painted. I painted it the same color as the walls so that it would blend right in, and then added the grass cloth wallpaper in the back
We also painted the entire space. We went with a lighter shade on the walls and a darker color on the trim throughout. See the colors we used in the graphic below. The colors created a neutral foundation from where I added lots of color and textures
Next I addressed the large windows in the room. We removed the generic blinds and added custom motorized roller shades for the privacy layer, and custom linen drapery panels to soften these vast wall of windows. Here we are installing the draperies
Quite a big job!
Here are the shades shown in the breakfast room. I chose a dark material for the roller shades. It actually blends in more than a light color would
I then added in some great texture in the room through the use of grass cloth wallpaper on the fireplace wall and in the back of the new built-in bookcase. Here is the wallpaper being installed
The room’s copper tones used as the accent color, was inspired by the fence that is visible in the back yard. I know it’s an unlikely inspiration, but notice how visible the fence is from the inside. The existing tile flooring also had a slight hint of the copper tone. I then added in blues, mustard and green to the mix
Notice all the varying textures in the room. I also incorporated a subtle theme of branches throughout – the drapery fabric has a branches motif, and branches are also incorporated in some accessories and florals.
I brought in the large custom sectional which wraps that corner very nicely. The fabric is a performance fabric that will hold up to spills and stains, and the piping is leather. It’s all in the detail, right?
All the pillows were brought in to layer color into the space, I love mixing patterns, and these wonderful patterns work so well together
The two leather chairs provide extra seating, as well as the two ottomans. My clients love having people over, so my job was to create as much seating as possible
I also brought in these amazing barstools for more seating
The cocktail table is a gorgeous leather croc pattern, and I added two storage ottomans below for storage
The two side tables were added for extra surfaces for when they entertain guests
The artwork is my favorite part of this project. It pulls all the colors together, and it is very visually strong, so it really adds interest in the space
A few more shots of the space
Here is where we started with the breakfast room
There was no real space for the family to dine. They were using an old folding table and sofa.
Here’s what we did with the space
The kitchen window treatment
This was a fun project to work on. My clients are very happy, and we are currently working on another phase of their home. Repeat business is always a great thing.
